Westar Energy to host meeting in Udall Mon.

Westar Energy is holding an open house in Udall Monday night to discuss possible routes for a planned high-capacity transmission line that will run through Cowley County.

The open house is set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the commons area of Udall High School, 305 S. Seymour. The new line is part of Westar’s agreement to support TransCanada’s Keystone Pipeline.

Westar Officials said the new line will run from the proposed Sumner County substation 10 miles northeast of Wellington to the proposed TimberCreek Junction Substation roughly two miles southeast of Udall. From the TimberCreek substation the line would head east two miles to a proposed Rock Substation owned by TransCanada.

This line will supply the electricity to a pump station needed to transport crude oil from Alberta, Canada to markets in the central United States.

The open house will include representatives from Westar Energy’s line design and construction, substation, environmental services, real estate and communications teams, as well as representatives from the engineering firm Burns and McDonnell.

Residents near each possible route for the planned line were invited to the open house by letter. The meeting is open to the public.
