Two hurt in early Sunday wreck near Udall

Two men were hospitalized early Sunday following a single-vehicle accident on K-15 near Udall, according to a Cowley County Sheriff’s Department report.

Eric L. Keimig, 36, of Grove, Okla. and Mark Mathews 45, were hurt when the 2000 Ford Explorer they were traveling in entered a ditch and flipped. Keimig was in fair condition this morning while Mathews condition was listed as serious, according to a spokesperson at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday morning. The report indicates Keimig was driving the Explorer at a high rate of speed when he left a curved section of the roadway, lost control of the vehicle and entered the ditch.

Keimig, a passenger in the vehicle, was reportedly trapped inside for some time before he could be freed.

The vehicle flipped and struck two speed-limit signs, according to the report. The presence of alcohol was noted at the scene. Testing is being conducted to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident.
