AC police to target drunk drivers this weekend

Police in Arkansas City will be conducting a DUI saturation patrol Friday and Saturday in an effort to cut down on the number of impaired drivers on the road, Lt. Mark McCaslin said Monday.

Officers taking part in the patrol will look for people driving too slowly, crossing center lines, running red lights and other clues used to seek out drunk drivers. Those suspected of driving under the influence may be subject to sobriety testing and could be arrested.

McCaslin said officers would saturate a designated area with the sole purpose of detecting, stopping and arresting impaired drivers. Officers will also be monitoring for speeding and safety belt violations.

The location of the saturation patrol was not provided.
