Local teacher using grant for learning device

Kerrie Bryant ? a first-grade teacher at Winfield’s Lowell Elementary School ? has been awarded a teaching grant she use to buy 10 vision tracking tubes for use in the classroom.

Bryant estimates that 25 to 50 percent of her students each year have visual tracking issues. Proper visual tracking is essential for learning to read and do math, she said.

The teaching grant is sponsored by U.S. Cellular.

The Vision-Tracking tubes, which were designed by an optometrist, will allow students to do visual exercises which are also said to improve the ability to sustain attention and improve brain function as kids participate in activities where they have to cross the mid-line of their bodies.
