Minor fire breaks out at Rubbermaid Thursday

A small fire broke out in the manufacturing area at the Newell Rubbermaid plant Thursday morning, fire and company officials said Thursday.

An aerosol paint can exploded and ignited some insulation in one of the company’s buildings on E. 12th, according to a company spokesperson. No one was injured.

Alan Stoll, assistant fire chief and marshal, described the fire as minor and said he was conducted an investigation whether the fire was set intentionally or by accident. Damage estimates were expected to be minimal, he said.

Employees had the fire out by the time emergency personnel arrived and other chemicals in the area were properly stored as to prevent them from igniting, Stoll said.
