Ark City cops search for wanted parolee Fri.

Police in Arkansas City are looking for a parolee who fled from officers Friday before ditching his vehicle and avoiding capture, police chief Sean Wallace said.

Tyson Levi Rakestraw, 31, was spotted in the 300 block of N. Summit when officers observed a red-colored Mercury Cougar with a license plate number registered to Rakestraw. Shortly thereafter, police learned the man was wanted by the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Rakestraw was paroled in October after serving two years on a 2006 drug conviction. He was reported as an absconder, or fugitive, in late April, according to information from the department of corrections.

After being spotted, Rakestraw is said to have turned west on Spruce, where he began zigzagging through residential areas. The suspect’s car was later found abandoned in the 600 block of N. Fifth.

The car was impounded and police looked for Rakestraw without success.
