Rubbermaid layoffs to peak at 125 in August

Roughly 125 Newell Rubbermaid employees will be without a job when temporary layoffs at the Winfield plant peak in late August, according to a company spokesperson.

Rubbermaid employs 490 people locally.

Last month, company officials announced they would layoff workers at the Winfield plant on E.12th due to a sluggish economy and slow sales. The company produces coolers and plastic storage sheds here.

Connie Bryant, a spokesperson at Newell Rubbermaid’s corporate offices, supplied the following numbers following a request from NewsCow.

Layoffs –

66 employees are laid off for the first period from June 6 to July 17.

85 estimated employees will be without work from July 18 to Aug. 28.

125 employees from Aug. 29 to Oct. 9.

The layoffs were structured so that the smallest number of workers was laid off for all three periods, while others are without work for only one period.
