Cowley County officials entered a salvage yard near Winfield early Monday morning to clean up a property that a Wichita business owner had planned to use for a recycling center.
Sheriff Don Read said deputies had gone out to 3705 Main ? which is just outside the city limits ? to assist a county clean up crew. A chain on the front gate was cut and a road and bridge crew entered the premises to begin the clean up.
The work should be completed by the end of the day, undersheriff Bill Mueller said from the scene.
"They’re moving along pretty good," he said.
Jay Marks ? owner of Wichita-based American Scrap and Can ? had missed several deadlines to clean up the property.
