UPDATE: Sanchez arrested in Derby Tuesday

UPDATE:10:30 p.m. – Jared Sanchez was arrested at a home near Derby Monday evening, according to media reports.

Authorities had confirmed to reporters that they were tracking Sanchez using cell phone calls he made to a girlfriend in Louisiana. The escaped inmate was located at a residence near 63 St. South and Rock Rd., the Wichita Eagle reported.

Authorities in Oklahoma continue the search for a fugitive who escaped from the Sumner County jail in Wellingon Friday.

Jared Sanchez, 30, is considered armed dangerous. He was spotted Saturday in Kay County, Okla and was pursued by sheriff’s deputies there, according to Oklahoma law-enforcement officials.

Sanchez fired up to six shots at a pursuing deputy before losing control of the vehicle he was in and crashing into a bridge. He got out of the vehicle and fled on foot and avoided capture since fleeing.

Oklahoma authorities established a perimeter around a rural area near Blackwell, Okla. and are continuing a search for the escapee. A Kay Co. sheriff’s dispatcher said Monday that the two-day search could be called off later today.

Sanchez was arrested in Sumner Co. on a warrant out of Louisiana. Probation and parole officials there told NewsCow the man was convicted of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and simple burglary.

He faces additional charges in connection with his escape from custody.
