Ouch: Man arrested after beaten with own gun

An Arkansas City man got hit with his own gun and then toted off to jail following an incident early Sunday morning.

Dustin J. Neubecker, 26, was arrested and faces two counts of aggravated assault. He’s in jail on a $6,000 bond.

A written report from police indicates Neubecker and a second man with him had been involved in a fight with a group of people in the 1300 block of W. Kansas. Officers were called to the scene around 4:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a fight in progress with weapons involved.

Witnesses at the scene told police that Neubecker and a friend had arrived "looking for a fight" and got into an altercation with some people that were in a group at the location.

Police said Neubecker pulled a gun on a male and female at the scene and Neubecker’s associate was said to have flashed a gun he had in his waistband.

A man took the gun from Neubecker and his associate and struck them with the guns. Police have not released the names of any other person involved in the incident and said there have been no other arrest made for the time being.

Chief Sean Wallace said Neubecker and his friend were beaten up but not seriously injured. They were treated at a local hospital but did not require a long-term stay.

Several members of the group involved are Hispanic ? while Neubecker and his friend are white ? but police gave no indication the incident was motivated by ethnicity or race.

Wallace did say that others at the scene could eventually face battery charges. Members of the group claimed self defense as a reason for attacking Neubecker and the his associate.
