Streaker hit with a disorderly conduct charge

Curry Field’s farewell streaker is facing a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

A 14-year-old Ark City High School freshman was detained by police Thursday night after running the field in the buff during the Ark City-versus-Winfield football game. He was later released into the custody of his parents.

The boy’s name will not be released due to his age and his case will move through the juvenile justice system, Ark City Chief Sean Wallace said. In most instances a juvenile with no prior criminal record can avoid a formal conviction through a process known as intervention, he said.

The incident occurred during a halftime ceremony where parents and students were being introduced. The student was able to run the length of the field and back before meeting up with police on the field’s north end.
As the run went on, cheers and jeers from the crowd increased.

In video footage of the incident, an officer can be seen removing the boy’s hat ? the only thing the streaker wore aside from shoes ? and using it to cover his unmentionables. The streaker was wrapped in a blanket and taken to the police station where he was reunited with his parents.

Wallace acknowledged the humor of the incident ? for nearly everyone except the streaker’s family.

"I think I might have given my kid a spanking right then and there," he said.
