Gun was just for protection man tells AC cops

An Ark City man told police he was just trying to protect a friend late Thursday when he grabbed a rifle and escorted a woman to her ex’s home so she could pick up some personal belongings.

The incident landed Leon Price Jr., 61, in jail on a charge of aggravated assault. He was taken to the county jail where he remains on a $3,000 bond.

Around 8:30 p.m., officers went to an address in the 200 block of N. Second St. after getting a report of man with a gun. Police made contact with the person who placed the call for help and that person said Price was inside.

The reporting caller’s name has not been made public.

Price, according to a written report from police, acknowledged bringing a rifle to the house. He told police he feared for the safety of an unnamed woman who needed to visit the home of a person with whom she previously had been involved in a relationship.

The reporting caller and other witnesses told officers that Price came out onto the front porch, pointed his rifle at them and cocked it. The group said they feared for their lives.
