Ark City man critical after fight at stateline bar

An Ark City man remains in critical condition this morning after being beaten up Monday at a recently opened bar on the stateline, authorities and hospital officials said.

Two possible suspects are in an Oklahoma Jail on alchohol-related offenses.

The fight occurred just before 10 p.m and Cowley County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to find a man lying on the ground outside Outlawz Bar and Grill. People at the bar told investigators that two other men involved in the skirmish had left in a pickup truck.

Bart Canaday, 49, was identified by undersheriff Bill Mueller as the man injured in the fight. He was listed in criticial condition this morning at Wesley Medical Center, according to a spokesperson at the hospital. Canaday was thought to have suffered serious head injuries.

Witnesses told authorities that an argument began inside the establishment and the men ended up outside, where a fight ensued. No one has been charged with the assault but Mueller said two men later arrested in Oklahoma are thought to be suspects.

"That’s giving us more time to complete our investigation," Mueller said.

Outlawz opened at a location at 33947 61st Rd., site of the former State Line Bar and Grill.
