Hot-air balloon tether rides coming to Ark City

Hot-air balloon tether rides will be the main attraction at an event aimed at raising money for the Renaissance Festival in Ark City.

Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum has scheduled the rides to begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at Carver Park on the corner of 8th and Chestnut. There will be two balloons and a ride is $5 per person.

If it’s windy, then the event will be rescheduled for the following day. Wind has caused the event to be rescheduled once previously.

Friends of the Renaissance will provided activities for those waiting to ride the balloons. Starting at 5 p.m., the evening will begin with a carnival and concessions. The carnival will include bounce horses, a dart throw, milk bottle toss, face painting, prize scramble, bean bag toss and more.

A ticket booth set up that evening will sell tickets needed for the activities. A number of prizes will be available for participants.

If bad weather or wind persists, riders will be allowed to get into the balloon basket while the burner is fired and listen to an educational program.

If you are interested in an opportunity to win a full ride for two in a hot air balloon please contact the museum.
