A small fire in a restroom trashcan led to the evacuation of Ark City High School Tuesday morning, school officials said. Police arrested a 17-year-old in connection with the incident.
The suspect faces a charge of arson and has been released into the custody of his parents.
Around 8:30 a.m., the high school was evacuated for roughly 15 minutes after the fire was noticed, spokesperson Alisha Call said. No one was hurt and the building suffered no structural damage.
Students were back in class a short time later. Call said the district will follow district guidelines in regard to discipline for the student involved.
