School board members in Ark City are considering adding Ipods and other electronic devices to the list of gadgets whose use is restricted by the district’s cell phone policy.
The board approved the parent-student information handbook and discipline handbook for next school year this week. Approval, however, was on the condition that the cell phone and electronic device policy be represented for approval by July 1.
Students already are forbidden from carrying or using cell phone or pagers during the school day. Some board members said its probably time to address Ipods and other personal electronic devices.
District officials said they would like to find away to address electronic items while still embracing technology in an appropriate way.
A committee will meet to discuss the police and define appropriate usage of the technology prior to the board taking final action.
