Suspect in Ark City chase arrested in Kay Co.

Authorities in Kay County, Okla. are trying have arrested a man suspected of fleeing the scene following a pursuit that began in Ark City Saturday.

Around 10:30 p.m., an Ark City officer attempted to pull over a vehicle that ran a stop sign near the downtown area. The vehicle would not stop for police and a pursuit began.

Officers chose to discontinue the chase given the risk to drivers in the downtown area. Sgt. John Merz slowed his patrol car but kept the suspect in sight as the vehicle left town.

Merz was authorized by superiors to follow the vehicle into Kay County. The suspect then turned east on Home Road and bailed from the vehicle.

Kay County under sheriff Steve Kelly said that information inside the abandoned vehicle indicated it belonged to Christopher Guidry, 26, Newkirk.

"That evidence doesn’t put him behind the wheel, obviously," Kelly said. "But it’s a place to start."

Kay County authorities caught up with Guidry just after noon Monday at the sale barn in Blackwell, Okla. He was arrested for outstanding warrants and taken into custody.

"He had warrants, which is probably why he fled from police up there," Kelly said.

Guidry will be questioned in regard to his role in the pursuit this weekend.
