Smith: I’ll review Internet solicitation case soon

It’ll be at least a couple days before Cowley County prosecutors begin considering formal charges for Thomas Lee Pennycuff ? an Ark City man accused of using the Internet to seek out young teen girls.

County attorney Chris Smith said he expects a report regarding the investigation to be in his hands soon, but would not comment further. Police in Ark City have yet to submit the report to his office, he said.

Authorities have said evidence links Pennycuff, 25, to 13 instances of Internet sexual solicitation.

The suspect also faces a charge of electronic sexual solicitation in Sedgwick County and has made a first appearance in court. Smith said he believed Pennycuff was able to post a $25,000 bond and was released Wednesday.

Sedgwick County jail records available online indicate Pennycuff is not an inmate there at the present time.

Pennycuff was arrested earlier this month after he allegedly arranged a meeting online with a Sedgwick County detective posing as a 13-year-old girl. He was arrested after showing up at the predetermined meeting place.

Ark City police then obtained a search warrant for Pennycuff’s home and seized a computer and other evidence they said linked the suspect to Internet solicitation.
