SWAT team helps arrest AC burglary suspect

Arkansas City police called in a regional special weapons and tactics team Thursday to aid in the arrest of a man accused of entering someone’s home and stealing cash and two handguns.

Terrell Jack Brumley, 30, faces charges of aggravated burglary, theft, possession of stolen property and possession of depressants. He was booked into the Cowley County Jail on a $9,000 bond.

Police were called to a home in the 600 block of N. B Street around 7 a.m when a resident called to report a burglary. The homeowner, who was not identified by name, told police a man had entered his home and then ran out the front door.

The homeowner confronted the man and even knew the suspect’s name, which he supplied to police investigators. Police found that someone had gone through several cabinets and taken guns and cash.

Officers tracked Brumley’s vehicle to his home, according to chief Sean Wallace, and knocked on the door. They also called out the man’s name, but thre was no response.

Because of the suspect’s lack of cooperation and because he was known to be armed, the Southern Kansas Swat Team was called to help. Brumley was taken into custody and a pair of handguns were recovered and placed in evidence, according to a written statement.
