Slick roadways lead to accidents across state

Slick conditions caused some traffic accidents in the area Sunday night.

Several accidents, including two multi-car accidents caused road closures in two high traffic areas. Around 7 p.m., a five- to six-car pileup near Udall on the Kansas Turnpike shut down traffic for a while as authorities cleaned up. One person was said to be hurt in that accident.

An accident north of Winfield on US 77 sent two people to the hospital. The two unidentified 20-year-old women were in the single car accident. Their current condition is unknown.

At the south bridge in Ark City around 9:30 last night, two cars were involved in an accident there that led to the road being shut down for a time. Reports indicate that at least two people were transported to the hospital from that accident. Their condition is unknown.

Throughout Kansas there were several deaths.

In Marion County, Sheriff’s deputies say that two died on US-56 when their car skidded sideways on an ice-covered bridge and was struck by a tractor-trailer. Near Deerfield, one person died and five others were injured when a sport utility vehicle veered out of control on an icy curve and rolled.
