Political picker Sabato to speak at SC in April

Dr. Larry Sabato ? author, professor and director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics ? will be the featured speaker at Southwestern College’s Docking Lecture this spring.

This year’s lecture on leadership and public affairs is set for 11 a.m., April 19 at Messenger Hall. The event is open to the public.

Sabato will offer his Sabato’s Crystal Ball ? a look back at the first year of the Barack Obama presidency and look ahead to the upcoming mid-term elections and 2012 presidential race.

In 2008, Sabato correctly projected Obama would win the presidency by a near land-slide. His prediction of the final Electoral College county was just one vote off. He also accurately predicted 99 percent of Senate, House and governor winners.

The Wall Street Journal has referred to Sabato as "probably the most quoted college professor in the land." His political predictions have earned him praise from news organizations like Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC and Pew’s Project for Excellence in Journalism.

His latest book is The Year of Obama: How Barack Obama Won the White House.

The Docking Lecture is underwritten by Union State Bank.
