Cowley County is included in an extreme grassland fire warning issued by the National Weather Service. Outdoor burning is not recommended for much of this week.
Gusting winds, higher temperatures and dry brush and grass prompted the issuance of the advisory. Fire risk is considered to be "extreme" through Thursday and "high" on Friday and Saturday.
Fire crews in the area already have been called to grass fires in the area this week.
