Corrected: ACHS fire started in boiler room

(Editor’s note: Due to a mess up beyond my control, you got information yesterday about a fire that happened at the high school some time ago. Information from the fire that occurred Thursday is below. Big apologies for the goof. – Shane)

A small fire in a boiler room ? likely caused by some construction work ? led to a brief evacuation at Ark City High School Thursday.

The fire was put out almost immediately, according to school spokesperson Alisha Call, but some smoke made it into the lower level and some classrooms directly above the fire site.

Students were out of classes for about 12 minutes while smoke was blown out of the building.

The fire department was also dispatched to Lincoln Childhood Center in Ark City for reports of a fire in a dumpster near the building. The fire was minor and no cause has been determined so far.
