Strong storms Monday brought high winds that shut down power along Summit and damaged buildings in and around Ark City.
Loss of power on N. Summit effectively closed McDonald’s, Wal Mart, Sonic and other area businesses. Two hours after the storm, power remained out.
Just east of the U.S. 77 bypass some homes along U.S. 166 highway were heavily damaged. Electric crews could be seen pulling sheet tin from power lines.
It was not clear if a small tornado had touched down but it appeared twisting type winds caused most of the damage.
