Winf. chase ends with arrest of drug suspect

A brief pursuit through a north-Winfield neighborhood Thursday led to the arrest of a man wanted on a warrant out of Sumner County.

Derrick P. Nasworthy, 27, finally pulled over near the intersection of Fifth and Harter after fleeing police during a routine traffic stop. Nasworthy and a trailing police cruiser weaved in and out of several neighborhoods and it appeared the suspect was throwing items out of the car’s window during the pursuit.

Nasworthy had been avoiding authorities since failing to appear on a drug violation in Sumner, according to Cowley undersheriff Bill Mueller.

He was arrested and transported to the Cowley County Jail. Several law enforcement officers spent time searching for small baggies believed to have been tossed from the Nasworthy’s car.

Authorities also determined Nasworthy’s driver’s license had been revoked.
