Drug awareness classes offered in February

The Cowley County Drug Task Force will host a pair of drug awareness presentations next month, one in Winfield, one in Ark City.

The first is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 18 in the Wright Room at the Brown Center on the campus of Cowley College. The second one is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at Baden Square in Winfield.

Speakers will include members of the task force and Mark Westfall of Kings Treatment Center in Winfield. Representatives from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office, the Winfield Police Department, and the Arkansas City Police Department will also be on hand.

The presentations are intended to inform and educate interested citizens of Cowley County on a variety of issues involving the local illegal drug situation. Those in attendance can get a first-hand look at some of the illegal drugs available in our community.

They can also learn about signs and symptoms of drug abuse, local drug abuse treatment options, enforcement efforts, and get a statistical overview of the issue as it affects Cowley County.

This program is suitable for people of all ages and is free to the public.
