Cops say AC man was spending bogus cash

An Arkansas City man has been arrested and accused of trying to pass phony money at the local Wal-Mart Thursday, police chief Sean Wallace said.

Ricky Lee Johnson, 31, Ark City, was arrested after police say he attempted to use counterfeit money to purchase a gift card. Several bogus bills were taken from Johnson at the scene, Wallace said.

Police obtained a search warrant to search for more counterfeit money at Johnson’s home. While executing the warrant, evidence of methamphetamine usage was discovered.

Johnson is in the Cowley County Jail and faces 15 counts of making a false write, or counterfeiting, possession of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia. He’s being held in lieu of a $36,000 bond.
