Suspect leaves cell phone in a stolen vehicle

Police in Ark City Sunday recovered a vehicle reported stolen a day earlier and used a cell phone left behind in the SUV to make an arrest in the case, according to a written report.

Cody Broyles, 22, Geuda Springs was arrested and faces a charge of felony possession of stolen property. An investigation continues in the case because Broyles told police he was not the one who stole the 2003 Ford Expedition.

A search for a second suspected continues. Broyles was later released after posting $2,000 bond.

The SUV was reported missing at 8 a.m. Saturday and was said to have a dealer tag on it from River City Auto. It was taken from the driveway of residence on Lord Road shortly after midnight.

The vehicle was recovered when officials with the Arkansas City Country Club called Sunday to say a vehicle had been left on their property. Police found a cell phone inside.

Broyles went to the police department to pick up his phone and was interviewed. He was arrested shortly thereafter.

Broyles told police he drove the vehicle from a friend’s home on country club road to the Ark City Country Club. Brolyes said he parked the Expedition and got into his truck and left.
