Busted: Teens drinking hit with citations Sat.

Three adults and six juveniles were cited for drinking underage at a party southeast of Winfield Saturday night that sent at least one person to the hospital, unsheriff Bill Mueller said Monday.

Kalen Potts, 18, Winfield, Cassandra Hart, 19, Wellington, and Bethany Birkhofer, 18, Winfield, were each cited for minor in consumption of alcohol.

Six of those cited were juveniles and their names were not released.

Around 11 p.m., the Cowley County Sheriff’s Dept. responded to a report of a large and loud party in the 13000 block of 186th Dr. Deputies arrived to find a number of young people collected at the property, several were able to flee by foot and were never found.

Other young people were there but not drinking, Mueller said. The person transported to the hospital was evaluated and later released after receiving a citation.

Most of those involved were from rural Winfield and Wellington. The party was held in a large field near a creek on property that belonged to Potts’ family.

The property owner said he knew there was a party but had been told there would be no alcohol.

The approximate location of the party is shown on a map below.
