Winfield’s Bill Muret has become the first attorney to file for the judgeship that opened when J. Michael Smith announced he would be retiring.
Muret – who has long served as legal counsel for the city of Winfield and has a local practice – filed Thursday with the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office. A number of other attorneys have expressed interest in the position.
The deadline for filing is noon on June 10.
