Make that six: Lanning is candidate for judge

Winfield attorney LaDonna Lanning is joining a deep field of Republican candidates in the race for Cowley County district court judge.

Lanning collected signatures ? which is an alternative to paying a filing fee ? and will be on the ballot, says county election officer Karen Defore. The county certified the signatures and notified the state that Lanning should be a candidate.

Since 1993, Lanning has been a practicing attorney with the firm Rogers and Lanning. Prior to that, she served as a secretary for Rogers and Reed, Rogers and Loomis and Rogers Law Office for 14 years.

Lanning is the former president of the Cowley County Bar Association, served on the Cowley College board of trustees for 12 years and is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Lanning, Rod Iverson, Bill Muret, Chris Smith and Bert Wilson all have filed for the position being vacated by J. Michael Smith.

Mark Krusor is the lone Democrat to file.

Deadline for filing is June 10.
