Steroids shipment leads feds to liquor store

Federal authorities were in Winfield last month after customs officials intercepted a small package of illegal drugs shipped from outside the country to a local business, NewsCow has learned.

So far, no arrests have been made following the execution of a search warrant at C and B Liquor, 802 Alexander, on June 23.

The business is owned and operated by Chad Wilson. He had left the store for the day and was not immediately available for comment Wednesday afternoon.

Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Wichita office conducted the search with assistance from local agencies. Gail Montenegro, a spokesperson for ICE, confirmed that a warrant was executed in Winfield and that an investigation was ongoing.

Thus far, no formal charges have been filed as a result of the probe, Montenegro said. She declined an opportunity to offer any specifics about the case.

But multiple law enforcement officials ? who asked not to be identified because their agencies did not have jurisdiction in the matter ? confirmed that the case centered around a shipment of steroids made to C and B from outside the U.S.

Anabolic steroids – mostly used for bodybuilding and as performance-enhancing drugs – are illegal in the states.

At least one person has been questioned in regard to the matter and formal federal charges may be filed in the case.
