Winfield man OK after being clipped by truck

A Winfield man suffered minor injuries early Friday morning when he was clipped by a driver that had taken him a few miles out of town and ordered him out of the vehicle.

Lonnelle T. Foster was suffering from road rash and complaining of back pain when officers found him at the intersection of 151st Rd. and U.S. 160. His injuries were minor and he is expected to recover, Cowley County undersheriff Bill Mueller said.

Foster was found after authorities received a report of a man found on the highway after being struck by a truck.

Foster told investigators he was riding with a person who had agreed to give him a ride to his home in Winfield. Instead the driver began heading out of town and eventually stopped and told Foster to get out of the vehicle.

"As the truck was turning around and pulling away to leave, the victim was struck," Mueller said. "Now, whether that was an intentional thing or not, were not sure of yet."

Its not entirely clear whether driver and victim knew one another or perhaps had just recently met. An investigation is ongoing.

The name of the person driving the truck has not been released.

Last month, NewsCow reported that Foster had received a ticket and was accused of panhandling in Winfield.
