New Winfield football stadium nears unveiling

Southwestern College and Winfield High School are ready for community members to view the new football stadium.

On Aug. 31, SC athletic director Dave Denly and Ken Crandall, the college’s football coach, invite the public to attend a guided tour of the new facilities at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. The tour starts at 7 p.m. and anyone interested should meet in the plaza area between Stewart Field House and White Physical Education building.

The tour is free of charge.

Other activities are scheduled for late August and early September. They include:

-Friday, Aug. 27?Winfield High School Blue and White scrimmages. The soccer team will play at 5 p.m., middle school football at 6 p.m., and high school football at 7 p.m. The Winfield High School Booster Club will be selling hamburger/hot dog meals to visitors beginning at 5 p.m.

-Thursday, Sept. 2?The Winfield High School soccer team will host Wichita West. Junior varsity plays at 6 p.m., varsity at 7:30 p.m.

-Saturday, Sept. 4?The Southwestern College football team will battle Panhandle State University at 7 p.m.

-Monday, Sept. 6?Winfield High School freshman and junior varsity football will play Augusta. Game times are 5 and 6 p.m.

-Friday, Sept. 10?The Cowley Cup will take place for the first time in Jantz Stadium when the Winfield Vikings host the Arkansas City Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
