Dr. Adam Free – a veterinarian in Newkirk, Okla. – is expanding into Cowley County and will open a clinic in the former TLC vet clinic building in the coming months, a spokesperson for Dr. Free said Tuesday.
Free intends to clean and remodel the building before hiring one or two vets and others to staff the facility, says Laura Williamson, office manager at Free’s Newkirk office.
It will be at least a couple months before the new clinic – located just south of Winfield on U.S. 77 highway – is opened for business.
"The building is in pretty bad shape," Williamson said. "It’s going to take quite a bit of work."
Free grew up in Newkirk and graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2000. He has been practicing in Newkirk since 2003.
TLC Veterinary Clinic closed permanently in Dec. 2007 following a prescription drug investigation that led to an emergency closing of the clinic in September of that year.
