Hurricane Hermine saves some rain for Kan.

Like clockwork September brings with it the Walnut Valley Festival and, the threat of heavy rains to soak campers.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch that is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday. That’s when the remnants of Hurricane Hermine are expected to hit south central Kansas and parts of Oklahoma.

Forecasts put the chance of rain in Cowley County Wednesday night at 100 percent.

Between 3 and 6 inches of rain is expected to hit certain areas as the storm front moves through. Weather experts say it’s less common for a tropical storm to move this far north but weather conditions are right at the moment for such an occurrence.
