Festival marches on after night of rain, winds

Thousands of campers at Winfield’s Walnut Valley Festival endured a night of heavy rain and high winds and were ready to get on with the show Thursday, festival spokesperson Rex Flottman says.

Wind mostly tossed and turned tents, canopies and various other items prone to weather damage. Festival goers sought shelter at times, but there were no injuries.

"Every things seems to be coming along smoothly today," Flottman says. "No real problems."

Bent tent poles and some festival property – including an entry booth – were roughed up by the wind. It was nothing that was cause for concern, Flottman says.

"I think for people down here putting up with the weather is like a badge of accomplishment," he says. "There’s a lot of one-up-manship out here, as far as weather stories go."
