UPDATE: 2 Winfield men involved in shooting

UPDATE: 9:30 p.m. – NewsCow has confirmed that it was two Winfield men who were involved in the Ark City shooting Saturday afternoon.

Justin Tong was shot in the torso and will require surgery, according to his family. He is listed in critical condition at Wesley Medical Center but his family said he has stabilized.

Sean Rethmeier has been identified as the man who suffered a hand injury. The two men, who are in their early 20s, are very close friends, friends and family said.

So far the incident is believed to be accidental in nature. The two men reportedly had been shopping inside the store and returned to their car.

They were inside the vehicle together when the weapon accidentally discharged.

Police have not publicly released the names. NewsCow has independently verified that information.

UPDATE: 6:30 p.m. – A person was transported to Wichita following a shooting incident in the Ark City Wal-Mart parking lot.

There is reason to believe the incident was accidental in nature and radio reports indicate a person was shot in the hand, while another was struck in the torso. However, details of what exactly happened, have not been made public.

Police tape at the scene was taken down around 6 p.m. and a champagne colored four-door Buick car at the scene was towed away. Victim conditions are not available at this time.

Authorities have been attempting to notify family of the incident. Movement in and out of the store has resumed as normal. No part of the incident occurred inside the store.

UPDATE: 4:55 p.m. – We have confirmation that two people have been shot during the incident at Wal-Mart. One person is believed to have suffered minor injuries, while the other is thought to be critical.

A crowd has gathered at the store and any shopping or going in and out is apparently not happening at this time.

An air ambulance has been called to the area to transport an injured patient.

A shopper at Wal-Mart tells NewsCow that customers have been asked to remain in the area while an investigation begins.

The incident happened just after four.
