Winfield schools Superintendent Marvin Estes has announced that he will retire at the end of this school year.
Estes made the announcement Tuesday and said that USD 465 school board officials and other administrators knew he was contemplating retirement. His final day will be June 30, 2011.
"It isn’t like this is a surprise to anyone," he said. "We’ve (school board and Estes) had a very positive relationship and it (retirement) is something we have talked about for some time."
Estes said he expects to advise the board in helping to find a new superintendent. He has been superintendent since 2000.
