Stoll: Webster Eng. fire probably an accident

A fire that caused substantial damage at Webster Engineering and Manfacturing last month appears to be accidental in nature, Winfield fire marshal Alan Stoll said this week.

No official cause has been determined so far, but the investigation indicates nothing out of the ordinary.

"At this time, it doesn’t appear to be suspicious," he said. "But we’re still wrapping things up, there were a bunch of people to interview."

Stoll said there were people in the building, which is located in the Winfield Industrial Park, the day and night before the fire began on Nov. 21. Those people have or will be interviewed by investigators.

The area of origin has been traced to an interior wooden structure near the company’s office area that was built to divide the space into two floors.

Within that area are a number of electrical sources – computers, office equipment and other items – that must be eliminated as causes of the blaze, Stoll said.

So for now, an official determination on the cause has yet to be made.
