Burden chief Lowe to appear in court Dec. 21

Burden police chief Travis Lowe is scheduled to a make a first court appearance next week. He was arrested on a count of domestic battery Nov. 21.

Lowe is to appear in court next Tuesday morning, according to Cowley County Attorney Chris Smith.

"By then we hope to have made a decision as to whether he will be formally charged," Smith said.

If Lowe is charged, he would be informed of the count against him. If no charges are formally filed, he’d be dismissed and not required to return to court.

Smith has asked that the Kansas Bureau of Investigation look into the case to eliminate any perception that Lowe is receiving preferential treatment.

Lowe has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
