Cowley County chase ends in Oxford Sunday

A chase that began in rural Cowley County late Sunday ended in Oxford when a man running from police crashed his vehicle into a tree, undersheriff Bill Mueller said.

Caleb J. Gould, 28, faces multiple charges in connection with the incident, which happened around 9 p.m. He was hospitalized for minor injuries resulting from the crash and has yet to be arrested. Investigators are looking into whether alcohol played a role in the incident.

Cowley deputies were called to the 14000 block of 21st Rd. for the report of an incident and were provided a description of Gould’s vehicle. The suspect was located on 11th Rd. near the Sumner-Cowley line but would not stop for officers.

A chase ensued and Gould found his way to U.S. 160 and headed toward Oxford. An officer there was attempting to stop Gould when the suspect vehicle hopped the curb and hit a tree at Main and Ohio.
