Cowley College Board Clerk Tiffany Vollmer swore in JoLynn Foster and Christopher L. Swan to the Board of Trustees on Wednesday, according to a news release from the college Thursday.

Foster was recently appointed to fill the vacant seat of Bob Juden, a 1.5-year term, and Swan was appointed to fill the vacant seat of Jill Long, a 3.5-year term.

Juden and Long abruptly announced their departures in April

Foster and Swan were picked from six individuals who had submitted letters of interest to fill the two vacancies, following the resignations of former Trustees Bob Juden and Jill Long.

Swan and Foster will serve the remainder of the vacated terms and could then stand for election. Foster has four years of previous experience on the Board and served as Board Chair in 2018.

“I really look forward to her perspective and her years of experience on the board,” Board Chair Harold W. “Doc” Arnett said. “She has an unquestioned loyalty and devotion to Cowley College, but also has the courage to think independently.”

Swan is currently the Engineering Director for GE Aviation-Strother.

“(Swan) impressed me with his answers during the Public Forum,” Arnett said. “He brings a different perspective and a fresh voice to the table. His professional background will serve us well.”

The next regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting will take place Monday, Aug. 10, at 6 p.m. in the Earle N. Wright Community Room.

“Both Jolynn and Chris will work for the good of the college and the community,” Arnett said. “I look forward to working with both of them.”

Nancy Burger, who, like Long, was also elected in November 2019, resigned from the board earlier this month and that vacancy has yet to be filled.
