WHS threat suspect has case continued

A hearing for one of the teenagers accused of making a bomb threat at the Winfield High School last spring has been continued until 11:30 a.m. July 25.

Chad Lewis, who was 16 when the alleged threat was made shortly before the end of the last school year. was scheduled to appear today. There was no reason given for the continuance.

Lewis has one juvenile criminal complaint against him alleging that on May 15th he communicated a threat to cause the evacuation of the high school.

A series of threats were actually made that week. Both the high school and middle school were evacuated on that Friday because of the threats. Nothing unusual was discovered at the schools.

Another boy, Michael Mason, was charged with making a threat in March. He was recently found to be a juvenile offender and placed on supervised probation for one year, ordered to perform 300 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to the student newspaper.

A third youth has been charged but the case is closed to the public because he is only 12 years old.
