Bail increased for suspect in Whiteman case

Bond has been increased from $100,000 to $250,000 for a Wichita man accused of killing his wife, a Winfield native and?former Burden resident.

Reginald Johnson, 38, is charged in Sedgwick County District Court with first degree premeditated murder in the death of his wife, Amy Whiteman, 36.

He made his first court appearance last week. His preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 5. Johnson has not posted bond and remains in jail, according to Georgia Cole, spokeswoman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

The couple was living in Wichita. Johnson walked into a police station Aug. 20 and said he had hurt his wife. Police went to the home and found Whiteman had been shot multiple times.
