Chautauqua rape suspects bound for trial

Two Chautauqua County men have been bound over for trial on aggravated kidnapping and rape charges. One of the two is also charged with aggravated criminal sodomy. The alleged victim was 14 years old and a Chautauqua County resident.

Ashley Anstaett, spokeswoman for Kansas Attorney General’s Office, said Stephen Greger’s jury trial was scheduled to begin Dec. 17. Aaron Terning’s jury trial was set for the week of Jan. 14, Anstaett said. Pretrial motions on both will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 3.

The preliminary hearing was held last Monday. Both men pled not guilty and are being held on $1 million bond.

A gag order was issued in District Court in Sedan earlier in the proceedings. No information is available on when or where the alleged kidnapping occurred because of the order.

The attorney general’s office is handling the case at the request of Chautauqua County Attorney Kimberly King. The original charges she filed have been amended by the attorney general’s office.

Greger is charged now with one count of aggravated kidnapping, two counts rape and two counts aggravated criminal sodomy. All three charges are classified as severity level one person felonies. Terning is charged with one county aggravated kidnapping and one count rape.
