Whiteman case still set for trial, may change

A jury trial over the death of a former Cowley County woman is still scheduled to begin in Sedgwick County District Court Dec. 3. However, the date of the trial for Reginald Johnson of Wichita could change, according to Georgia Cole, spokeswoman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office.

He is accused of the first degree premeditated murder of his wife – Amy Whiteman – at their Wichita home Aug. 20. She was shot multiple times, police said.

All criminal jury trials are considered on Thursday afternoons. Dates are confirmed or rescheduled. Assignments are made the following Monday, such as which judge will preside over a particular case.

This Thursday will be the first time the Johnson trial is included in the Thursday afternoon conference. Cole said she may have?more specific information?on the date of Johnson’s trial this Friday morning.

Whiteman is a former Cambridge resident and graduated from Central Burden High School in 1989. Johnson, 38 years old?when arrested, is being held in the Sedgwick County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.
