Fire damages Arkansas City home Wed.

A fire gutted a bedroom and caused smoke damage throughout a two-story Arkansas City house Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported.

The residents of the house at 814 N. Third St. were out of the house when the first firefighters arrived at 10:03 a.m. – just three minutes after the fire was reported, according to Ark City Fire Captain Joel Day.

“We had extremely heavy smoke but the fire hadn’t broke out to the outside yet,” Day said. “Crews had flames on the outside when they made entry.”

The fire was under control at 10:22 a.m. and may have started from an electrical malfunction. Winfield firefighters provided mutual aid which is automatic on structure fires.

Day did not release the names of the residents of the house.
