A mobile home and shed at 1520 S Fourth St. were destroyed by fire late Wednesday night. No one lived in the mobile home and no injuries were reported by Arkansas City Fire Chief Randy Leach.
Owner Roxanne Roth lives next door to the mobile home and shed that were tied together by a common roof.
"When we arrived, it was totally involved," Leach said. "The cause of the fire – there was a pit in the back and they had been burning some limbs and cardboard. Apparently the grass burned over to the mobile home."
Leach said firefighters, including some from the Winfield department, remained on the scene for most of the night.
