Life sentence given to Amy Whiteman’s killer

Reginald Johnson was given a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years for fatally shooting former Cowley Countian Amy Whiteman at their Wichita home last August. The sentence was handed down in Sedgwick County District Court Friday afternoon.

A jury found him guilty in February of the first degree premeditated murder of his 36-year-old wife. The sentence is set by statute and means Whiteman won’t become eligible for parole until he serves the mandatory 25 years.

Every male inmate goes to?the maximum security prison in El Dorado to be processed and a determination in which prison the inmate should be incarcerated, according to Georgia Cole, spokeswoman for Sedgwick County District Attorney Nola Foulston.

Johnson has been jailed since he walked into a police bureau and said he hurt his wife. She had been shot multiple times.

A graduate of Central High School in Burden, Whiteman worked at the Winfield State Hospital for eight years. She had two sons.
